About Us

Who We Are

The Verbal Behavior Special Interest Group (VB SIG) is an officially sanctioned Special Interest Group of the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) specifically focused on the science of Verbal Behavior.

Our Goals

  • Support and encourage research efforts to improve our understanding of verbal behavior
  • Support practice-based issues in utilizing the analysis of verbal behavior
  • Support undergraduate and graduate instruction of Skinner’s verbal behavior
  • Communicate with other organizations making use of Skinner’s verbal behavior
  • Disseminate information regarding a behavior analytic approach to studying language

Our Mission

The mission of the VB SIG is to support the advancement of verbal behavior research and treatment approaches. Verbal behavior may be conceptualized as language from a behavior analytic perspective, as defined by B. F. Skinner. The VB SIG is a proud affiliate of the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI). It endeavors to provide institutional, financial, and scholarly support to those interested in studying verbal behavior.
We strive to provide our members with information on current events in the field through newsletter and email communication. It is our goal that by bringing together experts, students, and practitioners who are passionate about the study of verbal behavior, we will forward our science.
